Facebook launches "secret" app to dodge the bans in China

Facebook, which, as its program blocked in China to bypass censorship released app without their logo and name. To log into the new app the largest social network in China, WeChat, is used.
In its latest attempt to have an indirect presence in China, Facebook has authorized a local company to launch a photo-sharing application in the country in May, a new report has claimed.
A person familiar with the matter confirmed to CNNMoney that it is a Facebook app.
The release of Colorful Balloons shows Facebook, like other tech companies, is desperate to tap into the Chinese market. However, tech companies are incessantly striving to get into China. The country boastfully holds 700 million internet users which make the country more lucrative to the global tech corporations.
Last month, in a crackdown on Internet services by the government, Apple had removed all major VPN apps from the App Store in China.
And local companies have already stepped in to fill the social media void.
"We have long said that we are interested in China, and are spending time understanding and learning more about the country in different ways", a spokesperson for Facebook told Reuters.
The app has a few distinct features that cater to the Chinese market.
Colorful Balloons represents the opposite approach - one that is low profile.
To hide Facebook's tracks, the app was released by a separate local company, called Youge Internet Technology, registered in eastern Beijing, leaving no traces of the social media platform's link to it. And in order to sign up, users must register with a Chinese cell number.
Facebook declined to comment on Zhang's relationship to the company, and Zhang did not respond to phone calls requesting comment.
According to New York Times, the application is a knockoff of Facebook's "Moments". The app collates pictures from a mobile device's photo albums and allows users to share them with a QR code.
While photos can be shared, Facebook appears to have taken steps to ensure the app could not spread widely. And Colorful Balloon is the only app listed under the developer.
The risk Facebook is taking with the new app is high.
The familiar winged-wheel logo is one of the more iconic emblems in hockey, if not the North American sports scene. The team adds that it believes hockey is for everyone and celebrates the diversity of its fan base and the country.
