Defense Secretary, Schwarzenegger say United States ready to respond

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has said war with North Korea would be'catastrophic US Defense Secretary James Mattis has said war with North Korea would be'catastrophic

"My portfolio, my mission, my responsibility is to have military options if you need it", Mattis told reporters at a Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx) event in Mountain View, California, in his first remarks since North Korea threatened to launch missiles near Guam.

An editorial by US -based North Korea monitoring Web site "38 North" says USA media deserves a share of blame for the recent escalation of tensions between the US and North Korea.

Though not a direct response to the "fire and fury" statement, North Korea's army announced hours after that it was preparing a plan for missile strike on the USA territory of Guam should Washington carry out military action against the DPRK.

Mr. Trump earlier this week said North Korean aggression will lead to "fire and fury" of a kind the world hasn't seen before, and - after receiving criticism that those words could provoke nuclear war - doubled down on them Thursday, saying, "maybe that statement wasn't tough enough".

The column points out recent headlines of USA media outlets highlight that Pyongyang would never negotiate with Washington on its nuclear and missile programs.

Trump has said he would not allow Pyongyang to develop a nuclear weapon capable of hitting the United States.

Critics say the tweet sharply increases the likelihood of a conflict between the countries, as North Korea could misinterpret Trump's rhetoric and USA military maneuvers as signs of impending invasion and launch a preemptive attack.

Super Sally Pearson crowned world champion in golden comeback
She won gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 but those games stand apart from world competition. Hilliard said the coaching as well as the injuries marked Pearson's performance as extraordinary.

Meanwhile, France is urging all sides "to act responsibly and to de-escalate" tensions over North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

"The best way to show how (the threat) is widely gauged, is to look at last weekend when the UN Security Council voted unanimously to characterize this as a North Korean threat to the world's community", he said.

The DPRK recently announced that it was making plans to launch a missile into waters miles from the USA occupied territory of Guam, which is where the U.S.'s B-1 bombers are stationed.

Mattis said that though the State Department is making efforts to resolve the threat using diplomatic means, allied militaries possess "robust defensive and offensive capabilities".

The two discussed responses to North Korean provocations and the security situation on the Korean peninsula, he said.

Donald Trump's trademark bluster reached new heights on Friday, when he tweeted that US forces were "fully in place, locked and loaded" for an attack on North Korea but a top Pentagon Korea official in the Obama administration says that the president's claim is not just unsafe, it's false.
