Danny Drinkwater may be forced to remain at Leicester City as Chelsea have not returned with a fresh bid for the midfielder, according to a report from the Telegraph.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the west London side are ready to make another attempt to lure the 27-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge after failing with their first bid to sign the England worldwide.

Although Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace their Serbian midfielder, they are well short of numbers on the bench, with just 14 experienced players available. And while Kante has since departed to Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater is still contracted to Leicester, despite being interested in a move to the London club.

Leicester City have reportedly already rejected a £15 million deal for the midfielder, however, the Premier League Champions are confident that a second improved bid of £25 million could be enough to secure Drinkwater.

Drinkwater is not the only player targetted by Chelsea as the report also goes on to claim that Conte is eyeing at least 2 more signings, in addition to Drinkwater, to strengthen his squad before the transfer window ends.

"You know when you have good players that there might be interest from other clubs but I wouldn't sleep at night if all the scenarios that you (the media) put to me happened".

Leicester value Drinkwater at over £30 million due to his key contributions to the team over the last few years, including in their Premier League-winning season when he played alongside N'Golo Kante. The England worldwide had a formidable partnership with Chelsea destroyer N'Golo Kante that season.
