Sprint Looking for Options to T-Mobile Merger

Sprint's Chairman Proposes Merger With Charter Communications Charter is said to rebuff Sprint's merger proposal

If Charter agreed to merge with Sprint, it would have to receive the blessing of Comcast Corp the No. 1 cable provider in the U.S. These talks could gain legs again, along with the Sprint-Charter dialogue, the Journal reported.

Sprint and Comcast declined to comment while Charter, SoftBank and T-Mobile did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Despite hurdles with regulators, investors have expected for quite some time a deal between Sprint and T-Mobile, the No. 3 and No. 4 largest wireless service providers in the USA respectively, anticipating cuts in costs and other important synergies. "We're interested in focusing on our business and doing things in a methodical way at our pace and at our schedule", T-Mobile Chief Executive Officer John Legere said on a July 19 conference call.

It appears T-Mobile is not in any rush to push for a merger, although it acknowledged interest in talking with Sprint.

The Charles family was joined by the family of Edson Da Costa, another black man who recently died after being detained by police. One police officer was injured following clashes with protesters in Dalston, east London on Friday, and police made one arrest.

Charter has a separate pact with Comcast that could complicate a deal with Sprint.

Charter has already reportedly said no to one merger proposal from a wireless carrier. Verizon Communications also expressed interest in a takeover of Charter earlier this year, sources have said. That offer was said to be over $100 billion, but not high enough to suit Charter. Sprint, based in Overland Park, Kansas, has a market value of nearly $33 billion and even more in long-term debt.

Sprint is seeking to merge with Charter Communications to create a media and communications behemoth, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the situation. Bloomberg further stirred the pot by reporting that the companies may want to combine and then pursue an acquisition of T-Mobile US. The Obama Administration was apparently not ready to approve such a deal, but the Trump Administration might be more compliant.
