PDP Offers 'Amnesty' to Sheriff, Cairo, Others

Supreme Court Judgement Stuns Sheriff Camp Supreme Court Judgement Stuns Sheriff Camp

The sacked National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, has rejected the amnesty extended to him and his loyalists by the party new leadership.

This is against the backdrop of Wednesday's court verdict that bestowed on Makarfi, rather than Sheriff, the authentic leader of the party.

Sheriff had been installed as the party's National Working Committee (NWC) chairman in an acting capacity until he was removed during the party's 2016 National Convention.

The Supreme Court also ordered Sheriff to vacate the National Secretariat of the party.

Reacting to the court judgement on Thursday, spokesperson for the Sheriff camp, Bernard Mikko, in a statement, said: "We received with shock July 12 judgement of the Supreme Court on the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)".

He called on the party to reconcile with its members while also urging other parties to settle their internal problems with dialogue.

The only PDP lawmaker in the state's Assembly pointed out that his party will not gamble with the opportunity of reclaiming its mandate during the next elections.

"We want to appeal to everybody, those who have cases in courts, to withdraw them in the interest of the party". APC is a monumental disaster.

Adeyeye, a former Minister of State for Works, said the PDP would provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections. "APC will begin to see virile opposition henceforth".

Makarfi further said that committees would be set up to resolve some issues in the party's South-West chapter as well as interact with Sen.

Sheriff, who spoke through Ojougboh, said, "He said that he was going to grant us amnesty?"

"I never imagined myself being in the same party with impostors", he said. Are we criminals? No, he couldn't have said that.
