The apex court, on January 3, had clarified that a person shall be disqualified from being an office-bearer of BCCI if he or she has been in the cash-rich cricket board or any of the state association for a cumulative period of nine years.
"The SGM on June 26 was attended by various persons who are disqualified from being office bearers of BCCI and/or their respective state/member associations including N. Srinivasan (represented TNCA) and Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra CA) amongst others". It was also said that both of them created chaos in the meeting.
It had on March 24 clarified that an office-bearer in a state cricket body for a period of nine years can not be disqualified from holding a post in apex cricket body BCCI and vice-versa. It is nowhere said in the Supreme Court judgment that a member can not attend the meetings.
Thakur earned the ire of the court for not candidly telling it that they had asked for a letter from the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the appointment of a Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) nominee on the BCCI board amounted to government interference in its affairs.
"Till now, most recommendations were by and large accepted", Subramanium said, but Srinivasan and Shah kept repeating "nothing can be implemented".
Besides N Srinivasan, the SC also issued notice to Niranjan Shah and questioned how they could be representatives of any cricket body if they had been disqualified as office bearers.
