WWE announces the return of the Punjabi Prison

Punjabi Prison Match Confirmed For WWE Battleground 2017 WWE SmackDown: Jinder Mahal to face Randy Orton in a Punjabi prison match at Battleground
Nicole Thomas | 29 June, 2017, 08:58

The following matches are advertised for the WWE Battleground pay-per-view, which will be held on July 23 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Wells Fargo Center.

Since Jinder Mahal is the reigning WWE Champion, the creative is trying hard to garner attention from the audience of the subcontinent and this confirmed match is bound to help them to a certain extent. SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon came out instead and said that he would grant another title match to Orton, but Mahal would get to pick the stipulation.

When Mahal and Orton battle it out in the bamboo cages, it will mark only the third time in history that this match has taken place.

The Great Khali was supposed to take part in the first ever Punjabi prison match against The Undertaker at Great American Bash 2006, but couldn't after failing to pass medical, as Big Show took his place.

The next WWE "SmackDown Live" exclusive pay-per-view will be WWE "Battleground" 2017. You can only get so far with having lower level names dominate the show and then put one big match on to try and balance it out. As noted, the victor will go on to face WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens at WWE Battleground.

After they won, The New Day came out to get in the ring and called out The Usos for leaving their title match at "Money in the Bank".

SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi tweeted the following to Ms. Money In the Bank Carmella and the other Superstars of the SmackDown women's division after last night's Money In the Bank main event. The victor of that match becomes new No. 1 contender for Kevin Owens' United States Championship.

AJ Styles has made it clear in recent weeks that he is coming after Owens, as he wants to represent the United States as its champion. That was suggested as "The King of Strong Style" was seen backstage watching Corbin defeat Sami Zayn in a match.
