Trump Attacks Amazon, Washington Post in Tweet That Literally is 100% False

"The Washington Post, which loses a fortune, is owned by Jeff Bezos for purposes of keeping taxes down at his no-profit company, Amazon", Trump tweeted.

The stock immediately plunged about $8 per share before recovering by the market open.

The tweet also comes a day after the Post reported that a fake Time Magazine cover featuring Trump, dated March 1, 2009, hangs in at least five of his golf clubs.

The newspaper was purchased by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos for $250 million in 2013.

It's also possible that Trump is referring to internet sales taxes in his tweet. The White House declined to answer questions about the president's statement. "EVEN TV!" is being pointed to as the impetus for Trump's new Twitter rage against the Washington Post and Amazon.

"Because he's got a huge antitrust problem because he's controlling so much, Amazon is controlling so much of what they are doing", Mr Trump said. The company benefited from tax rules obliging retailers to collect sales tax only in those states in which they have a physical presence, or "nexus", such as a store or warehouse.

When dearness allowance crosses 50%, it will be increased to 30%, 20% and 10%, respectively for the three categories of cities. The union cabinet also chose to enhance HRA to 27%, 18% and 9%, respectively when the dearness allowance crosses 25%.

During the presidential campaign trump vowed to go after Bezos for anti-trust.

With respect to an "internet tax", states and localities can't levy taxes on access to the web.

In Australia, a so-called "Amazon tax" was mooted to begin this July so the GST would be extended to imported goods costing under $1000 that are now exempt. Which Amazon does collect now.

Many other internet sales firms continue to avoid collecting the tax and Mr Trump's Republican Party policy platform opposed an expansion of state power to levy new taxes such as the Marketplace Fairness Act that was rejected by Congress in 2016.

While it's hard to parse his tweet for specific meaning, it's likely he's resurfacing a criticism he's made about Amazon's tax practices in the past. The deal will likely require regulatory approval.
