Roger Stone Set To Testify In Closed Hearing With House Intel Committee

Ex-Clinton campaign chair Podesta meets with lawmakers investigating Russia House intel panel interviews Podesta in Russia probe

Stone has denied co-ordinating with Russian Federation during the 2016 election, but he has acknowledged having a Twitter exchange with "Guccifer 2.0", a hacker that US officials believe has ties to Russian Federation.

Stephanopoulos asked Stone about a tweet he sent on August 21, which read, "Trust me, it will soon be Podesta's time in the barrel".

"With John Podesta appearing before the committee I do feel it is essential that I have the opportunity to rebut his serial lies".

Asked if President Barack Obama was aggressive enough in combating Russia's interference, as some have argued he wasn't, Podesta said the administration was "dealing with an unprecedented incidence of the weaponization of the fruits of Russian cyber activity, and I think they were trying to make the best judgments they could on behalf of the American people".

Following the reports that Stone had been called to appear before the House Intelligence Committee, his attorney attacked the committee, insisting Stone had no involvement. "Roger looks forward to using his time in front of the committee to set the record straight".

Buschel told Politico that Stone has been "cooperating" with House and Senate committees in their respective Moscow probes.

His personal email account was breached by hackers and the contents released in batches on the anti-secrecy platform WikiLeaks in the lead-up to the November 8 election, a steady drip-drip-drip of minor revelations that were politically damaging to Clinton.

According to The Hill, the committee interviewed Podesta as part of its probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Stone has been mad at the former Clinton campaign chairman since Podesta accused him of having prior knowledge of the DNC leaks well before WikiLeaks began serving up Podesta's pizza orders and risotto recipe. The U.S. intelligence community suggested in its January 6 report that Russian Federation was likely behind this effort.

Stone has previously been involved in a number of election campaigns, usually for Republican candidates.
