Google News gets a much-needed redesign to cut down on clutter and confusion Google News redesign

Today, Google unveiled its new look to make it easier to understand the said web service. On Tuesday evening, Google rolled out a redesign of its page that aggregates news stories.

The redesign is a way for Google to stay competitive and beat other news readers, like Apple News, Facebook, and Twitter. When you click on a story card, News will show you related articles from a range of publishers offering different perspectives. The Google News page now has three tabs on top of the homepage - Headlines section, Local section and a For You section (personalised search results).

Users may also notice the navigation scheme has been tweaked to include a new navigation bar with options for "Headlines", "Local", and "For You". In "Local", you can track stories from any part of the world. The latter is again based on your interests and creates a "mini news feed" of articles that might be of interest to you. Google has detailed all the updates to its News platform in a blog post. The company says it's improved how it selects top videos, which are highlighted in a story card.

The new Google News page that adorns viewers now with its sleek and spacious look is dominated by the pleasant blue colour and the font changed for better to make it more appealing.

There are various views - the first "offers a quick glance into a story", but naturally, you can go deeper and see articles from a range of sources and points of view. All of the new tools Google added in recent years, including real-time coverage, fact checks and support for videos, remain in place. Currently, the feature is only available in the United States.

The story was replaced with an editor's note of apology to Anthony Scaramucci , the Trump aide who was investigated in the story. The release of the embarrassing video comes after another high-profile fake news flop at the network.

Next comes the "Full Coverage" page, as the name suggests, lets the reader immerse himself or herself in coverage about a story or issue that they want to deep dive into, writes Anand, revealing the changes made to the Google News page.

How long has it been since you visited the desktop site for Google News?

In any case, if the new Google News has already gone live for you, then you'll see the old listing of links and thumbnail images replaced by a collection of cards, just like the ones used in Google Now.

Finally, we come to what is perhaps the most important addition with this redesign: a dedicated fact check bar.
