New map feature in Snapchat raises concerns

Saskatoon police warn parents of new Snapchat feature Snapchat Tracks You Constantly: Here's How to Stop It

Snapchat boasts a huge contingent of teenage (and younger) users, many of whom aren't too discerning about who winds up on their friends list. Sounds cool right? But what if you're totally unaware you have this feature turned on to all your Snapchat friends and they can see you're every move. A map that shows your location will load.

Security experts said parents should stay up to date about the apps sharing their children's location and make sure children limit their audience or shut them off altogether.

But for those who do opt-in, your location is visible as soon as the app is opened - not just while snapping, allowing contacts to see where you work, where you live, where you play, and where you go to school.

From there, you can click the gear button in the top right corner and then toggle "Nearby Friends" off. There, the app lets you choose who sees your location with three settings: "Ghost Mode", "your friends" or "select friends". Below are directions from the Snapchat website to help you enable and disable these options.

EPA moves to rescind Obama's Clean Water Rule
The Clean Water Act, passed in 1972 and last amended in 1987, is meant to protect the nation's waters from pollution. The WOTUS rule expanded the definition of U.S. waterways under the "Clean Water Act", giving EPA, the U.S.

When the app is in camera mode, pinch the screen to view the map. From there, you'll be able to make adjustments.

Should you have second thoughts about what setting you chose, you can always go back and change it.

"There is no such thing as privacy anymore once you are online", Rossow says.

"I thought I would share this since Snapchat is used by most of the youth in the area as a means of communication with their friends", the Augusta County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook. Some of those tips include only sharing your location with people you know in person and regularly reviewing your settings and making an active decision about whether you want people to know your location.
