Federer downs Mayer, into Halle semis Roger Federer strolls into Halle semis for the 13th time

Roger Federer from Switzerland waits for the ball served by Florian Mayer from Germany during the ATP tournament tennis match in Halle, western Germany, on June 23, 2017.

Federer, who won an 18th major at January's Australian Open, skipped the entire clay court season to preserve his powers for the grass campaign.

This will be the second meeting between Federer and Zverev in the Halle Open after the latter triumphed in a 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 semi-final win. He has not dropped a set along his way to the finals and also defeated Zverev's older brother Mischa to make this far into the tournament.

Lopez, whose last tournament win was at Gstaad a year ago, has never got past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

After breaking to love in the first game of the match, Federer soon found himself 4-0 up and it was not long before the first set was brought to a swift conclusion.

The top seed suffered a shock loss to veteran German Tommy Haas in his first competitive match on grass this season in Stuttgart, but has built momentum in a tournament that has given him such fond memories over the years.

British Queen's wages to rise by 8 pct next year
The increase couldn't come at a better time, since a $472 million renovation is in the works at Buckingham Palace. The excess was placed in the "Sovereign Grant Reserve", a fancy name for the royal rainy-day fund.

The 35-year-old broke in the opening game of the match to establish his control and did not offer a reprieve as he dominated from start to finish. Both players have been in exceptional form this year with Federer winning his 18Grand Slam while Zverev won his first Masters 1000 title at Rome.

"I played great, I felt good from the start", said Federer.

While speaking about his opponent Federer said, "It was all a little uncertain because I don't know him that well".

Zverev has a very bright future in the game, and has a victory over Federer at this very venue.

Federer will enter the 2017 Wimbledon as the odds-on favourite after a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory to cap off another successful week in Halle.

A superb dropshot put Federer 5-2 ahead and sealed Zverev's fate before he won the match on his first match point with a crosscourt volley.
