Instagram's Snapchat Stories clone, aptly named Instagram Stories, is now being used by 250 million users every day.

In August a year ago, Instagram rolled out its stories feature, which allows users to have a almost identical experience on the app that they would on Snapchat.

Instagram Stories originally passed Snapchat in April when it announced 200 million DAUs.

Snap opened the day Tuesday at $17.82 a share, and dropped almost 3 percent by noon after Instagram/Facebook's announcement.

Man plows van into crowd by London mosque; 10 injured
The head of Tell MAMA, Fiyaz Mughal, warned of reprisal attacks against Muslims following major Islamist terrorist incidents. He pointed out the similarity between this attack and two others on London Bridge and outside Westminster Palace.

In the first quarter, Snapchat reached 166 million daily active users.

Instagram Stories is a typical case of the children doing better than their parent. That's a meaningful chunk of the 700 million monthly active users (MAUs) that the broader photo/video sharing service now boasts. "You can also tap the toggle and choose "Discard", and your live video will disappear from the app as usual", said Instagram.

Instagram says that the live video replay feature is now only rolling out to its mobile apps on Android and iOS. In two months, Stories has gained 50 million new viewers, likely thanks to the network effect that comes with having an overall daily audience of more than 400 million people and slotting the Stories feed atop the app's main screen.

From new creative tools to location stories, we've been focused on making it easier to share any moment and uncover stories from the accounts and interests that matter most to you. The new feature allows users' friends or followers to catch up the moments they missed.
