Abedi, a 22-year-old Briton of Libyan descent, killed 22 people on May 22 at an Ariana Grande concert.

Police on Monday arrested a 16th person in connection with the Manchester suicide bombing, the deadliest attack in Britain for 12 years.

British investigators have released pictures of Abedi taken from CCTV shortly before the attack, which also injured more than 100 people, appealing to the public for help in tracing his movements in the days before.

The man is being held for terrorism offences, while a police presence remains in place at the address in the coastal town.

Police officers gather on a street near a property that they raided in the Moss Side area of Manchester on 27 May 2017.

MI5 has launched two urgent inquiries into how it missed the danger posed by the Manchester bomber, Salman Abedi, amid claims his interest in being a potential terrorist killer was repeatedly reported to the authorities.

Several of the victims were children, the youngest being just eight.

The Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Monday she welcomed the investigation by MI5.

It has also been suggested Abedi "most likely" went to Syria but Turkish officials reportedly said they had no record of him travelling to the country.

Philippines official: Terror suspect still in besieged city
The military announced on Saturday, the start of the Holy month of Ramadan, that it would intensify the bombing campaign. Civilians trapped by fighting in Marawi city are waving white flags from their windows to show they are not combatants.

The Bank Holiday raids followed a flurry of police activity in Manchester over the weekend, with the arrest of a 25-year-old man in Old Trafford and a 19-year-old man in Gorton in connection with attack.

"The operation is still really at full-tilt in a way and so until the operation is complete we can't be entirely sure that it's closed", said Rudd.

Prime Minister Theresa May on Saturday lowered the terror threat level, which had been raised after Monday's carnage.

Although Abedi was born in Manchester, his parents came from Libya, fleeing to Britain as refugees from the regime of Muammar Gaddafi.

But security remained high at major events across Britain on Sunday, including the Great Manchester Run road race, where police armed with submachine guns protected thousands of participants and spectators.

Abdedi was known to British security services before the bombing, the government has said, but Rudd declined to comment on exactly what had been known about him.

Greater Manchester Police have made an appeal to the public for information about Abedi's movements since 18 May, when he returned to the United Kingdom from overseas.

"And I think it is right that the MI5 takes a look to find out what the facts are", she said.
