BA aims to restore normal flight service after IT failure

Velma Reese | 30 May, 2017, 03:57

The carrier, part of the International Consolidate Airlines Group (ICAGY) , had hoped to clear the system failure, which developed early Saturday morning, and clear passengers from both London airports after 6pm BST. "We believe the root cause was a power supply issue and we have no evidence of any cyber attack".

It said that for passengers on flights to or from the two airports on Sunday or Monday, "even if your flight is still operating, you can rebook to travel up to and including 10 June".

Customers who saw their flights cancelled are being refunded or rebooked onto new services "as quickly as possible".

Delays were also reported in Rome, Prague, Milan, Stockholm and Malaga due to the system failure, which coincided with a bank holiday weekend and the start of the half-term school holidays for many people in the UK.

A Heathrow spokesman said: "Because of the disruption yesterday, some passengers have had to leave Heathrow without their bags".

The company, however, did not share details on how many flights were disrupted and how many flyers were affected by the cancellations.

There are also a "significant number of bags at Heathrow which we will be reuniting with customers via couriers as soon as we can" British Airways announced.

LONDON (AP) - British Airways said "many" of its IT systems were back up and running Sunday, but travelers still faced cancellations and delays after a global computer failure grounded hundreds of flights.

The airline has suffered other IT glitches recently, leading to severe delays for passengers in July and September a year ago.
